School of Athens by Raphael

The most famous philosophers of ancient times move within an imposing Renaissance architecture. One of the most famous frescoes of Italian artist Raphael.

The School of Athens represents the TRUTH acquired through reason.

In the middle of the fresco Plato with his pupil Artistotle. Both holding modern copies of their books in their left hands, while gesturing with their right. Plato pointing upwards, a symbol of his claim that ultimate reality lies beyond what we experience. And Aristotle teaching with his extended hand in an elegant horizontal gesture, because he thought that the ordinary emperical world is ‘more real’.
